Case Study #1 : 2 years school case

This is my first case study in this blogspot.com. More coming soon..

So, I already shared this with a few friends but I wanted to open it up to the world of xanga and see what people think...

Until now I had at least the next 2 years planned out already. I was going to go to SJSU, I had even moved to San Jose to be close to the school and all that. However, this weekend while rummaging through my files, I found a paper.

I had dropped out of UCSD after Winter 1999, and came home depressed and feeling like a failure. The paper I found was a leave of absence I filled out in Spring of 1999 to withdraw from the school. What I hadn't realized until now was that it was ONLY a leave of absence.

Meaning that I can get back into UCSD just by filling out a form and talking to an academic advisor. This seems too good to be true, and yet there it is staring me in the face.

So I now have 3 possible choices for my next 2 years, not just the one I was determined to follow.

1) Start school at San Jose State University and finish with a degree there.
Pros: Easier to get good grades, closer to friends and home, less expensive
Cons: Less chance of being paid well, less chance to grow in experience.

2) Continue school at UCSD and finish with a degree there.
Pros: It's the school I always wanted to graduate from, and I can get it done in 2 years or so
Cons: I need to find a job there, I need to work hard to get good grades, and I need to find a place to live. I'm also not sure whether a job I get there will pay for the school.

3) Wait a few years and then go to UCSD
Pros: I can tie up a lot of loose ends in my life here and save more money
Cons: It's not good to take a long break from school, and I want to get through it!

I'd like your prayer on this very important decision. Thanks :)

My analysis and decision (if I'm on this situation) would be :

a) If this happen to me NOW. Pick #2. I would go to UCSD to get my degree. Well, I have nothing to take care of, only myself. Beside, I'm still young, and would love to get a new experiences. God would provide me money and everything I need in my life... of course He would love to see me achieve what I want in life.. :)

b) If I were you. Pick #2 (again). I would leave my comfort zone behind. Meaning, leaving family, friends and even job to achieve my degree. Since my first priority is school, I would move to San Diego to get a good degre. It's a good school!!! Why have to think twice.. :) I can find job anywhere. If it doesn't pay well, might put the tuition fee on credit on the first year. But!! I'm pretty sure that I would get a good job with a good payment, based on my diploma degree (the certificate... remember) and work experience. Might be tough on the first year of school.. but I am TOUGH! :) Oh yea, I can still go home on weekend to see family and friends... or maybe on holidays or season's breaks. It's time to after what I really want in my life.

Another alternative. First, I can go filling out the form and talk to the advisor, listen what they offer. If everything is okay and... accepted. I would start to find a room in San Diego -> quit my job -> find a job while waiting for the admission and etc etc -> moving in. If the first thing doesn't work out... well, I can always go to SJSU to study.. and stay with my recent life. Either way works out..

c) If I am you now. I would pick #1. Hard to leave the comfort, family, friends, and of course.. job.

Oh yeah, about option #3. Wasting time. If I can get my degree in 2 years or less, why have to wait? Time is flying soo fast. Beside, if I can finish my degree... after that, I can go and maybe take other course as my study... like.. geology, or etc.

-End of my analysis-

Fiuh, finally I had it done. Now.. there are few questions we need to think about..
1> Are you ready with this NEW exciting experiences?
2> Are you ready to leave the comfort zone you had now?
3> Are you ready to leave job, family and friends for two years to go to UCSD?
4> Does your financial able to support you for at least first 3-6 months? Well, for food, gas, etc.. only while you haven't get any job... or something else.
5> Can you commit with yourself to get a good degree in 2 years or less? Meaning, tie yourself like a horse in a horse race. Nothing else matter, only school, no classmate relationship involve (remember... bf/gf can make your grade F? :( )
6> ..... (any other thing that I can't remember)
